WHAT ARE WE ALLOWING TO HAPPEN

So, folks don’t believe we are in the middle of a coup by Trump and his gang. If those doubters look unbiasedly at what is happening, they might change their minds. I hope that’s the case before it’s too late to recapture country from the hands of corrupt leaders.

Not so long ago, CBS caved to the man in the White House. Trump stewed over Stephen Colbert’s sense of humor because the host had the courage to call for facts about a wide variety of activities that have taken place during the first year of Trump’s second bite of the “presidential apple.” The pressure must have immense for CBS and Paramount to knock off the number late-night host. Of course, the president had reacted badly to a “60 Minutes segment with Kamala Harris. Instead of defending its First Amendment Rights, the network settled and awarded the complainant $16 million. He also hated Colbert for jokes at his expense.

This is the same network that employed such greats as Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather, Mike Wallace, and Edward R. Murrow. It’s apparent that the same strong sense of right and wrong and high standards of journalistic integrity no longer can be found in the corporate offices that run the major network.

Tonight, America discovered that Trump through another fit. This time, however, the cowards inhabited the offices at Disney and ABC. Jimmy Kimmel made comments about the Charlie Kirk case in which he stated that the assassin was a right-wing MAGA adherent. Executives were threatened with the losing of their licenses if something wasn’t done to the late-night host. Before anyone could bat an eye, higher ups suspended the airing of Kimmel’s show, and many assume that the host will also be unemployed.

All of this hysteria from President Trump worries network executives. They don’t want to lose their jobs and bonuses, but they evidently care little about destroying their reputations and democracy. They cower at the pathetic whines of an old man who seems to be intent on turning the USA into a country run by a dictator. Like parts of the federal government, this company kisses the feet of a would-be autocrat so that they don’t lose monetarily.

I doubt that Walter Cronkite would have sat on the sidelines while Trump steamrolled individuals who poked fun at a president. He might well have called the executives on the carpet to tell them that the loss of freedom of speech is the death knell of democracy. Mike Wallace would have gone straight to the Oval Office and demand an interview. During that time, he would have made the man in the big seat look as petty as all know he is. Edward R. Murrow would have presented well-researched, plain=spoken segments that proved that the man who is the head of the country care about nothing other than making money and a name for himself.

The truth is we are in a dangerous time. The GOP is in charge of both houses, the presidency, and the Supreme Court. Trump’s ignorant sycophants are in leadership roles of all major agencies, and they are in such roles to make sure that their boss is always in charge of every area of American life. For people of meager means, life will only grow harder, and resources will dwindle. Major cities will continue to be invaded by National Guard troops and other military forces. They will be sent under the guise of helping control crime, but one might easily suspect troops are being deployed to control citizens when elections are suspended and Trump is anointed King.

I am not a radical. I believe in some of the ideas that conservatives have. I fall into the collection of “moderate” Americans, who believe in the Constitution, the freedoms that it gives to individuals, and the limits that it places on the three branches of government. My fears are that radicals are taking over our country and that we will never have freedom again. This country at one time served as a “beacon on a hill.” Now, it’s a smoldering fire that pollutes every area and person it touches.

The outcome is up to us, if it’s not too late. Those who have gone before us have fought many battles to preserve our democracy. Their sacrifices now appear to have been in vain. Our turn is here. We can either go against the evil forces that would change the land of the free into the land of the king or sit quietly as the last ounce of freedom is taken from us. For those who question my worries, I dare you to dig into the history of Nazi Germany and see what thing led to the rise of Hitler. The parallel s might shock independent thinkers and speakers. However, if you don’t mind losing the life you have, stay seated your backside until you lose all that you’ve inherited by patriots of earlier generations. The time is now to take a stand against corrupt government and those who seek to implement it.
